Following the opening of the 2022 Lightning Ridge Opal and Gem Festival, the Governor and Mr Wilson toured the Australian Opal Centre before going underground at the Chambers of the Black Hand.

In subsequent days, the Governor and Mr Wilson met with students and staff of Walgett Community College, PCYC, Walgett Shire Council, Walgett Local Aboriginal Land Council and Walgett Aboriginal Medical Centre, before returning to Lightning Ridge to visit the John Murray Art Gallery and Goondee Keeping Place, and present the Opal Queen at the Opal Festival Ball.
