The Governor and Mr Wilson spent five days in and around Bathurst, Blayney, Cowra, and Carcoar meeting locals, soaking up the history, and celebrating community.
In Bathurst, highlights included meeting local Year 12 students, celebrating volunteers and community organisations at Abercrombie House, touring Bathurst Courthouse, and having lunch at the wonderful Cafe on Corporation. The Vice Regal Couple also met Charles Sturt University Communications students, visited the Bathurst Local Aboriginal Land Council, were shown around Bathurst Regional Council's Central Tablelands Collections Facility, and learned about Bathurst Correctional Centre's Defence Dog training, which provides companion dogs for Australian Defence Force veterans.
In Blayney, the Governor and Mr Wilson had the opportunity to thank local emergency services members and first responders for their tireless efforts keeping community safe at a morning tea at Blayney Fire & Rescue Station.
In and around Cowra, and in addition to attending the suite of commemorative events marking the Cowra Breakout 80th Anniversary, the Vice Regal Couple visited Weigelli Centre Aboriginal Corporation, Cowra Regional Art Gallery, and the Riding for the Disabled Op Shop. They also watched demonstrations by Riding for the Disabled and Cowra Pony Club, and met students and staff of Carcoar Public School, where the Governor opened opened the new school library and a spoke at a Public Education Week assembly.
