On 14 February 2024, the Governor spoke at the 140-Year Anniversary of Fire and Rescue New South Wales, held at the City of Sydney Fire Station.
In 1884, Governor Loftus gave Royal Assent to legislation that allowed the establishment of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade, which later became the NSW Fire Brigade and then Fire and Rescue NSW.
At the ceremony at the City of Sydney Fire Station, the Governor paid tribute to the organisation's 140 years of life saving and life changing service to the people of New South Wales.
