In the morning, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC, Governor of New South Wales and Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, and Mr Dennis Wilson commenced a regional visit to Lightning Ridge and Walgett, in central northern New South Wales.

Later in the morning, the Governor, accompanied by Mr Wilson, officially opened and subsequently toured the Lightning Ridge Opal and Gem Festival.

In the afternoon, Her Excellency and Mr Wilson visited the Australian Opal Centre and the Chambers of the Black Hands, in Lightning Ridge.
