Throughout the day, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales, participated in events commemorating the 79^th Anniversary of the Cowra Prisoner of War Breakout.

In the morning the Governor laid the first wreath in a Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Commonwealth War Cemetery, Cowra, and at the Japanese War Cemetery.

Later in the morning, Her Excellency attended a morning tea at the Cowra Japanese Garden and Cultural Centre, before planting a tree in the Cowra Peace Precinct.
