New Year Message
Monday, 30 December 2019
Government House Sydney
Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AO QC, Governor of New South Wales
As we see out 2019 and begin the first year of the new decade, we wish you all the very best for the New Year.
It has been an honour to serve as your Governor over the past eight months and I look forward to continuing to do so in 2020.
2019 provided many opportunities to recognise the people of New South Wales for their achievements, bravery and service, and to engage with a diverse range of community groups.
At the same time, it has been distressing to see so many people affected by unprecedented bushfires and drought. Dennis and I have been deeply moved spending time alongside those affected and privileged to express appreciation to those assisting them, many of whom are volunteers.
Throughout 2019, the warmth and wisdom of the traditional owners of the lands upon which we walk, the intelligence and enthusiasm of our young people, the brilliance of our scientists and researchers, the commitment of our educators and the dedication of community groups and volunteers has given me a deep insight into the wonderful community we have.
As we ring in the New Year, may I say “thank you” for the contribution you each make to your own communities and to the broader community of New South Wales.
Happy New Year!
